Ask yourself the following question…Am I healthy?
Now, answer that question as honestly as possible and keep it in mind. Some of you reading this article may have chronic disease, a medical condition, be in pain or have various symptoms, so you answered “No” to the question above. On the other hand, some of you reading may have no symptoms, no pain, no disease, no condition that you are aware of or anything you are under medical treatment for, so you answered “Yes, I am healthy”. It is obvious that if you answered “No”, it’s because you have an illness of some sort and you are well aware of your lack of health. If you answered “Yes” because you do not have any symptoms, pain, conditions or disease, you may be missing some critical information. Please read on…this is for you!
Health, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) is a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and NOT merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. To achieve a state of health, we have to function at 100%, our body must work efficiently and effectively in every way. Most people believe that if they feel good and lack symptoms they have nothing to worry about.
We have all heard of that “healthy” individual who runs 3 miles everyday, lifts weights 3 times per week and consumes a clean diet who goes to his medical doctor for a yearly physical, gets an EKG, his heart and lungs checked, blood work done, blood pressure taken and has the doctor tell him, “Mike, you are perfectly healthy, see you next year.” Mike goes home, goes to sleep that night and never wakes up…he’s dead! He has a massive heart attack at the age of 35. What happened to Mike? They just told him things were great, he was “perfectly healthy”. All tests done were negative, he had no symptoms, no pain, EKG was perfect…but he’s dead. What was missing in Mike’s life?
The Key to being as healthy as possible lies in how your body is working, how you function and not necessarily how you feel. Through science, we have learned that less than 10% of the nerves in your body actually sense pain. You can have nerve tension, stress and irritation causing organ dysfunction and never know it, because you don’t “feel” pain.
To achieve 100% function we need to provide our bodies with the best foods, proper supplements/vitamins, be active, exercise, decrease stress and interference to our nervous system, build a strong immune system to fight infections, think positive, sleep well, and be in touch with our spirituality. Health is a true balance of all that is “good” for us.
What was missing in Mike’s life was a Balance between all of the above. He did most things right but he did not know his body was degenerating. With all the physical, emotional and chemical stressors we have in Life, we need to get our nervous systems in balance. We need to remove all the stress, tension, irritation and interference in our body so we can function at our best, have a great quality of life and make sure we do not repeat Mike’s story.
So if you think your healthy, think again! If you’re exercising and doing some things right…Great, but why not do all things right for a healthier you this year! The link between better health and you lies in an optimal functioning nervous system. Remember, how you function is Key and the right Balance will get your body working at its best. Get your spine checked for nerve interference by a Chiropractor and start to create that better balance now!
